Navajo Code Talkers featured in native observance

KEYPORT — “Code Talkers” will be the topic of Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport’s American Indian/Alaskan Native Heritage Month presentation. The event will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Naval Undersea Museum.

There will be an overview of the Navajo Code Talkers before a showing of a 40-minute documentary, “In Search of History — Navajo Code Talkers.” The Code Talkers created the only unbroken code in modern military history and, according to the Navajo Code Talkers Foundation, the ancient language-based code is widely acknowledged to be instrumental in the success of every major engagement of the Pacific during World War II, saving countless lives and hastening the end of the war.

This event is free and open to the public.
