President’s Message

Carolyn DankersTogether, we have accomplished a lot in the last two years. A special thanks to our Board of Directors for the hard work that they have done and for their many contributions to our organization for the past two years. They do an excellent job of representing the members and keeping our organization on track. They represent so many years of experience and expertise. Thank you so much.

This is always a time of year for reflection as we give thanks for what we have and think about the needed changes for the coming year. A special thanks goes to Sandra and Earle Smith for their ninth year of chairing the Veterans Day event. This is our Councils largest event and is the largest Veterans Day event in the State of Washington. The Smith’s are already looking at plans for next year. We look forward to any opportunity to honor all of those who have served our country.

Holidays are sometimes challenging for our military, especially when families can’t be together. We are fortunate to be working closely with Operation Homefront and the Port Orchard Chamber to bring cheer and toys for the children. This year we will reach at least 500 children, so thanks to everyone who has supported these activities.

Thanks to the Marine Security Force Battalion for their excellent presentation at our last luncheon. From Colors to the cutting of the cake, they showed their excellence! Thank you for what you are doing.

Congratulations and best wishes also go to Byron and Pat Faber who exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, November 24.

Nationally, we are watching the news closely and hope that the fiscal cliff can be avoided. As President Theodore Roosevelt said, “Our best defense is a strong navy” and I am certain that he meant to include all of the sea services.

Plan on attending the December 11 luncheon, as it will be very special and fun.

Happy holidays to all

Carolyn Dankers
