President’s Message

Tim KatonaThe spirit of the American Holidays have three main themes; Thanks, Giving and Looking to the Future.

Thanksgiving is where we look back and reflect on all the things we have to be grateful for and giving thanks for those people and events in our lives for which we are most grateful.

Christmas and the entire gift giving and receiving season, is when we all get that great feeling from exchanging those gifts of the holidays and celebrating God’s greatest gift to us.

And finally we have the New Year, full of hope and the opportunity to set goals and resolutions for the up-coming year while taking a moment to celebrate at that transition point between the two years.

Well your Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council is in the middle of the very same three themes as we thank many of the folks that have made our council so productive in fulfilling our mission of the Navy League. We reflected back on our history and we were so thankful for past president and longtime member, Will Lent, who has remained active on our board for 33 years. He did show us that he could not be roasted without putting up a fight and ended up mugging the person who tried to do so-in a very good way. All kidding aside we are so thankful for your service Captain Lent! We also took time to recognize Kitsap County Sheriff Steve Boyer and the Great Chris Larson for their continued outstanding community and military support. The one person we cannot begin to thank enough for her service to your council President Carolyn Dankers, her unbridled energy and enthusiasms is a wonder to all and a great service to the community.

The council’s gift giving and assisting with gift giving this year is a broad support on many different fronts including Operation Holiday Spirit. We are doing many things to contribute to military families and your generous efforts combined with other great organizations like the Port Orchard Chamber, Operation Home Front through the Dollar Store, and the Port Orchard Soroptomists are making a lot of difference this holiday season for more than 500 children.

And then, finally as we look to the future we are firming board positions and working plans to have a through planning and goal setting session in January to continue to strengthen what our council does to support the sea services in our community long into the future. I am so honored to be working with our board and the entire council in these very important times in support of our sea services.
