Governor’s budget includes Naval Base Kitsap projects

OLYMPIA – The Kitsap Peninsula, the City of Bremerton and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard would all benefit under budget priorities proposed today by Gov. Jay Inslee.

“This is great news for the City of Bremerton and the 26th Legislative District,” said Sen. Nathan Schlicher, D-Gig Harbor. “A lack of compromise in Washington D.C. has dealt a blow to military communities across our state in sequestration, but the long-term threat to our bases and communities is present as well. I have been working with Gov. Inslee and U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer to address the long-term retention of these jobs in our community by ensuring the infrastructure around the base keeps up with the needs of the facility.”

Sen. Schlicher requested that the governor seek more than $3 million in state funding for two projects in Bremerton.

  • $2 million to improve the commercial truck entrance at the Missouri Gate of the naval shipyard.
  • $1.3 million to fund safety improvements to the pedestrian tunnel and turnstile entrance to the shipyard at the intersection of Park Avenue and Burwell Street.
