The eight-month wait families have had to endure to be reunited with sailors aboard the USS John C. Stennis is over.

The aircraft carrier with 3,000 sailors aboard came into the view of its homeport in Bremerton at about 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Loved ones and observers witnessed the last leg of its trek home, snapping pictures from as far north as Port Townsend and along various points as it crept through Rich Passage into Sinclair Inlet.

The carrier completed an eight-month, 66,000-mile deployment to the western Pacific on Friday. Aircraft from its deck flew more than 1,300 sorties in direct support of fighting in Afghanistan.
