Joe Follansbee, communication manager for the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, said the Lady Washington has visited the Bremerton area ever since her first voyage to Puget Sound in 1990. “We always enjoy visiting Port Orchard and Kitsap County,” Follansbee said. “Some of our biggest and best fans live in your community.”
The ships sail will sail toward the Port Orchard Marina after spending several days docked in Brownsville. They will leave Brownsville at 9 a.m., Aug. 16, and arrive in Port Orchard around noon.
The Lady Washington is the “Official Ship of the State of Washington” as designated by the State Legislature in 2007. Launched in 1989, the Lady Washington has appeared in several motion pictures, notably the 2003 “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”
Her companion ship, Hawaiian Chieftain, accompanies her on most voyages. Hawaiian Chieftain was launched in 1988.
Walk-on tours are a chance to visit the vessels at the dock and meet the crews, who will explain the ships’ history and educational mission.
Reservations are not required, and admission is by donation.
Battle Sails feature both ships in a mock cannon battle with real cannon, real gunpowder and authentic 18th-century naval maneuvers.
