The Technical Director is the highest ranking civilian of the command and is responsible for leading 1946 civilian and military scientists, engineers, technicians and support personnel who specialize in undersea test and evaluation, in-service engineering, maintenance and repair, fleet support and industrial based support for undersea warfare systems.
Kent replaces Mr. James VanAntwerp who retired from that position in January of this year. Kent had been the Acting Technical Director until a selection was made. Mr. Alan Kent was selected as Deputy Division Technical Director (DDTD) for Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport in June 2013. Prior to this selection, Mr. Kent served as the head of NUWC Keyport’s Corporate Resource, Planning and Customer Advocacy Department where he was responsible for the overall management of all customer tasking.
From Feb. 2005 until Sept. 2012, Mr. Kent led the Maintenance, Engineering and Industrial Operations Department where his duties included overall management of Keyport’s technical capabilities for maintenance and repair supporting undersea weapons/systems. The department’s five divisions included operating sites in Hawthorne, Nev., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

NUWC Keyport is headquartered in Washington State, and has facilities and operations in California, Guam, Hawaii, British Columbia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, and personnel working in several other states and countries.
