Navy Gateway Inns and Suites Honors Stellar Employee

Bremerton, WASH. – Purificacion “PJ” Valeria of Naval Base Kitsap’s (NBK) Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) was honored on Nov. 19 with the NGIS Stellar Service Award for all NGIS facilities worldwide.

The recognition came on Navy Lodging Program Appreciation Day during an awards ceremony at Shields Hall on NBK-Bremerton. The Stellar Service Award goes to the civilian NGIS employee who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism, attitude, guest service and job knowledge as determined by the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC), Lodging Program team.

PJ ValerioValerio, a Housekeeping Lead, was key to NGIS at NBK attaining two Five-Star Zumwalt accreditations according to Edgar Deocampo, NGIS General Manager for NBK Bangor and Bremerton. He noted that her customer service skills and willingness to go above and beyond her duty were key factors in being selected for the CNIC Stellar Service Award.

“I want to make sure that our sailors and customers are happy when they stay here at NGIS,” said Valerio, adding humbly, “I was only doing my job.”

Rear Adm. Jeffery Ruth, Commander, Navy Region Northwest, and Capt. Thomas Zwolfer, Commanding Officer, NBK, were on hand to honor Valerio and present awards and command coins to her and others during the ceremony.

Perlita Garcia was recognized for five years of service; Yon Dailey was recognized as Civilian of the Quarter for NGIS Bremerton; and Heather Taylor was recognized as Civilian of the Quarter for NGIS Bangor. The big award of the day, though, was the CNIC Stellar Service Award, that went to a surprised and happy PJ Valerio.

“I’ve been here 19 years, and it’s really nice to receive an award,” said Valerio. “It really surprised me.”

Navy Lodging Program Appreciation Day was established to highlight program and individual accomplishments and present awards to members of the NGIS team. Local NGIS accomplishments including repairs, renovations and upgrades were numerous over the past year, but the customer satisfaction rate stood out in the list of accomplishments.

“Your 91% customer satisfaction rate is well above the national average,” said Capt. Zwolfer. “You all should be really proud of that. The fact that the customers appreciate the services you provide is very significant.”

While the focus of the day was on the awardees, the entire NGIS staff has reason to be proud of their accomplishments and customer satisfaction rate. Capt. Zwolfer noted of the staff, “They quietly and humbly take care of the service members staying here, and they take seriously their motto: Heroes stay with us!”
