BREMERTON, Wash. – Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) will host the Armed Forces Wrestling Championship, an Olympic-qualifying event, on Feb. 20-21.
Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force wrestlers from all over the world will grapple in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling events during the two-day tournament at the NBK-Bremerton Fitness Complex.
The event is free and open to those with base access and their guests. The opening ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday with the wrestling matches beginning immediately after the ceremony and running through 5:00 p.m. Matches continue Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Leading the Navy team are head coach Chief Navy Diver Alejandro Delapena and assistant coach Navy Diver 1st Class Jesse Delapena, his brother. Teams from other services arrive in the days leading up to the championship.
