The Virginia-class submarine Washington (SSN 787) will be christened at 8:00 AM PST Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Newport News Shipbuilding. The Washington (SSN 787) is the first ship since World War II and the only submarine to be named after the State of Washington.

Washington (SSN 787), will be christened at Newport News Shipbuilding where the ship is being constructed. During the ceremony, Ship’s Sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, will perform the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship’s bow during the christening ceremony.
