The Bremerton Olympic Peninsula Navy League Council sponsors an annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. This event requires the combined efforts of over fifty service clubs. It involves static displays, 24 information booths, bands, bagpipers, inspirational presentations, food and friendship. Although the ceremony celebrates all veterans we were specially honored to have over 14 World War II veterans attend including Bremerton Navy League Past President Dick List.

Retired Army Colonel William Reeder, the last US Army Prisoner of War taken who survived the Vietnam War, was the Guest Speaker. He reinforced the themes of courage and sacrifice, belief in self, undying faith, strength of family, love of country, loyalty among comrades, and how precious is this thing called freedom that we so often take for granted.

Navy League volunteers filled in everywhere. Helen Miller and Carol Meteney served as official greeters. Linda Tammen, Erin Tammen, and Emma Hechert helped Carolyn Hudson distribute the cakes donated by Hudson Motors. Carolyn always buy extra cakes to deliver to the Marines on watch at Bangor.

A special thank you goes out to our talented organizers John Gardner, Sandra and Earl Smith for producing this annal ceremony. Thank to our sponsors Kitsap County Commissioners, Kitsap Sun, Raytheon, Gordon Sound and Crazy Eric’s. Crazy Eric’s did a wonderful job donating the food and feeding the hundreds of ceremony goers with free hotdogs.
