USS Bremerton: Meet The Captain

Commander David Kaiser has relieved Commander Travis Zettel as Commanding Officer USS Bremerton (SSN-698). Cdr Kaiser comes to us from command of the USS Dallas (SSN-700). USS Dallas was decommissioned here at PSNS on April 14, 2018.

Commander David Kaiser, a native of Ft. Myers, Florida, enlisted in the Navy following graduation in 1990. Certified as a nuclear trained Reactor Operator, he was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program and earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Commander Kaiser received his commission following completion of Officer Candidate School in December of 1997.

Commander Kaiser’s sea tours include 6 strategic deterrent patrols as a Junior Officer onboard USS HENRY M JACKSON (SSBN 730) (B), a surge deployment to the Western Pacific followed by an inter- fleet transfer and Change of Homeport from Pearl Harbor HI to Kittery, ME, for an Engineered Overhaul as Engineer Officer onboard USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724), and an Engineered Overhaul followed by an inter-fleet transfer and Change of Homeport from Kittery, ME, to Agana, Guam, with an additional year of forward deployed operations as Executive Officer onboard USS OKLAHOMA CITY (SSN 723).

Additionally, Commander Kaiser served as the Executive Officer for the maiden deployment of the USS MISSISSIPPI (SSN 782) to the Western Pacific. Most recently, Commander Kaiser completed his command tour involving numerous multinational and tactical development exercises, an inter-fleet transfer and Change of Homeport from Groton, CT, to Bremerton, WA, and final inactivation and decommissioning of USS DALLAS (SSN 700).

Commander Kaiser’s shore tours include Navy Personnel Command (PERS-42) Junior Officer Detailer, Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board Junior Board Member, Submarine Group NINE Deputy Chief of Staff for Training , and Submarine Squadron ONE Deputy for Operations. During these tours, Commander Kaiser earned his Master of Science degree in Operations Management with a certificate in Business from the University of Arkansas and completed JPME Phase I through the Naval War College.

Commander Kaiser wears the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards) , and various individual, unit, and campaign awards. He is married to the former Katherine Kovaleski of Northfield, NH , and has one son, Christopher.
