Oct 13: Pacific Northwest Navy Birthday Ball

The Pacific Northwest Navy celebrated their 243rd birthday on Saturday October 13 at the NBK Bangor Ballroom. The principal speaker was Commander Darlene Iskra US Navy (Retired). She was the first female Commanding Officer of a Navy ship having command of the USS Opportune (ARS-41).

Also honored was WWII veteran Roy Solt. Roy served as a Fire Controlman onboard the USS Pennsylvania (BB-38). As part of the celebration Roy was given a heroes tour of the Trident Submarine USS Pennsylvania (SSBN-735). “The people that I met during this trip were great,” said Solt. “I knew that the submarines were big but I hadn’t realized they were that big. This was an amazing visit.”
