Meet the Captain: Commanding Officer USS Bremerton Commander Christopher Lindberg

The Change of Command for the USS Bremerton is scheduled for November 27, 2018 at NBK Bremerton.

Commander Christopher Lindberg enlisted in the Navy as a Nuclear Mechanic in 1993 and was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program (Nuclear Option) in 1995.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1998.  He attended Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC and Prototype at Nuclear Power Training Unit Ballston Spa, NY.

He was assigned to USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701), homeported in Portsmouth, NH, for Division Officer tour.  While on board USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701) conducted a change of homeport to Pearl Harbor, HI and completed a Western Pacific deployment.  In 2003, Commander Lindberg transferred to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where he earned a Master of Arts in Applied Physics in July 2005.

Commander Lindberg reported to USS NEVADA (SSBN 733) (B), homeported in Bangor, Washington, as the Navigator.  He completed three deterrent patrols and commenced a CNO availability before transferring in August 2008 to be the initial manning Engineering Officer on USS CALIFORNIA (SSN 781) being built in Newport News, Virginia.

In July 2010, he transferred to the Naval War College and in June of 2011, he earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

In September 2011, he relieved as the Executive Officer on USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Following his Executive Officer tour, he reported to Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team.

Following completion of the Submarine Prospective Commanding Officer training pipeline, Commander Lindberg relieved as Commander, Submarine Squadron SIXTEEN Deputy for Readiness in Kings Bay, Georgia.

From October 13, 2017 to September 7, 2018 he served as Commanding Officer, Naval Submarine Support Command – Pearl Harbor.

Commander Lindberg’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (3). Navy Commendation (4), the Navy Achievement Medal (3), and various other unit and campaign awards. He is married to Mrs. Sarah Huntley and they have 3 kids, Amelia, Chloe, and Calvin.
