February 2019 President’s Corner

The gloomy days of winter are here. None of the white stuff yet on the ground for us lowlanders, but the Olympics are showing their majesty. We had a great January luncheon with Radm Grey. He spoke candidly on the challenges facing him as the Northwest Region Commander. His talk included speaking to the Bremerton Naval Shipyard workload, and funding proposals to modernize the yard. He also gave us insight about the ongoing local issues at Bangor and at Whidbey Island mostly related to the environmental impact of and on Navy operations.

The Officers and Board of Directors met for their annual off-site to review the plans for the New Year. 2018 closed with your council in excellent financial health. We increased our community affiliates to over 20 members. The Kitsap Golf and Country Club and McClouds Grillhouse joined this month. Total membership has increased, so last year was a very good year. We look forward to an exciting 2019 for the council. Byron Faber is putting together a very interesting series of tours for the year, next up is the Puget Sound Navy Museum on February 25th. The March 14 Tour is the Trident Refit Facility at NBK Bangor. Stay tuned for additional tours.
